Recipes for Christmas | A Meal That You Can Make Quickly So You Can Enjoy The Festivities
The best way to make sure that you can enjoy your day on Christmas and not spend the whole day in the kitchen cooking while everybody else is having fun is to use a little by planning.
There are many things that you can make ahead of time and store in the freezer or seal in Ziploc bags and refrigerated.
Set the table the day before Christmas with a nice tablecloth, stacked dishes and silverware and have the glasses already on the table. If you want to have a nice centerpiece for your Christmas meal be sure to have it ready couple of days before Christmas so you won't have to spend the time on Christmas doing it.
It is not necessary to put out a complete sit-down meal like on Thanksgiving. Why not make a nice buffet style meal with ham sandwiches, a tray of vegetables, chips and dip, cake and pie, nuts and a nice fruit salad.
First you want to make your shopping list in advance for all the items you want to include in your buffet. You can cook the ham in day before Christmas and slice it for sandwiches, and put it in a Ziploc bag.
You can purchase frozen yeast rolls and put in a pan in the morning and by noon that we ready to put in the oven so you can serve fresh rolls for the sandwiches.
You can cut up your vegetables including broccoli, cauliflower, carrot sticks, celery sticks in any other vegetables you enjoy and put each vegetable in its own Ziploc bag the day before Christmas. You can also make the pies and cakes a day or two for Christmas and refrigerate them.
If you get most of the meal ready a day or two for the holiday, then on Christmas day you can make a quick fruit salad, but at the vegetables in a tray, whip up a nice vegetables dip, pull out the cakes and pies and slice them, and just finished up any items that could not be pre-prepared.
By preplanning your holiday meal, you can get everything ready in an hour or less and have plenty of time to enjoy visiting with family and friends.

Betty Crocker Christmas Cookbook (Betty Crocker Books) [Paperback]
Kurt S. Adler 4-Foot Shaggy Tree
Customer Review
5.0 out of 5 stars "Excellent choice"
By CarrieK (Texas)
Excellent choice for the coming holiday season. I am especially excited about the huge section towards the back with ideas for gifts.
Very creative things like fudge, candy-making, powdered drink mixes, life-saver ornaments, etc.
Additionally, there's a section on crafts, like making your own garland with real dried apples as well as centerpieces with pine cones and candles.
All this paired with dinner recipes, appetizers, desserts and best of all, alcoholic drinks - cran-tinis, homemade eggnog, the works.
I am very excited to have this book, and for $13.57 (retail $19.99), it beats any other cookbook I've owned in the past.

Quick and Easy Christmas Recipes for Holiday Treats the Kids Will Love
Are you looking for a way to keep your children busy during holiday break?
One great way to have them contribute to the holiday festivities is to have them help make holiday treats
In many families cookies are an important part of the holiday tradition. Even if your children aren’t able to bake yet, they can help decorate. Here are a few quick and easy holiday treats your kids will love.
#1 Rice Crispy Treats
Rice Crispy treats are no-bake snacks that can be ready in a matter of minutes. You can find the recipe on the side of any rice cereal box. You need a box of rice crispy cereal, a bag of marshmallows and butter. Once the treats are made, you can use cookie cutters to shape them into holiday decorations.
One easy shape for younger children is to cut the treats into circles and decorate them to resemble tree ornaments.
You can use basic colored gel frosting found at the supermarket, or make your own butter cream frosting and color it with food coloring to match your desired decorating style.
Let your little ones express their creativity by decorating the treats.
#2 Sugar cookies
Round sugar cookies can be made and decorated like holiday ornaments. Or you can roll them out and use various holiday cookie cutter shapes to get more creative.
This is particularly fun for older children who may enjoy more complicated decorating tasks. Additionally, older children can bake the cookies.
#3 Peanut butter balls
Another no-bake cookie that’s fun to make are peanut butter balls. They’re also called buckeyes.
Basically, you blend peanut butter, butter, and powdered sugar into a gooey mess.
You then roll the peanut butter mix into melted chocolate, let cool and enjoy.
Here’s a quick and easy recipe.
* 1 1/2 cups peanut butter
* 1 cup butter, softened
* 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
* 6 cups confectioners' sugar
* 4 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
In a large bowl, mix together the peanut butter, butter, vanilla and confectioners' sugar.
Roll into 1-inch balls and place on a waxed, paper-lined cookie sheet. Chill for thirty minutes in your freezer.
Melt chocolate chips in a double boiler or in your microwave. Stir frequently until smooth.
Dip frozen peanut butter balls in chocolate. Leave a small portion of peanut butter showing at the top.
Place back on wax paper and store in refrigerator.
If you have family recipes, invite your children to help bake. Getting your children involved in the holiday preparations accomplishes many beneficial things. It helps them feel valuable. They learn new skills.
Additionally, it helps them stay busy during time off of school. They’ll be able to grow up and share their joy of holiday baking with their own family.

Christmas with Paula Deen: Recipes and Stories from My Favorite Holiday
[Hardcover]
Customer Review
Customers who bought this book have commented on how SMALL it actually is, and that it lacks many illustrations, so bear that in mind if you want to buy this Christmas recipes book.
From Publishers Weekly
Christmas, that time of good cheer and lapsed diets, is the perfect holiday to showcase the cooking of Food Network star Deen (Paula Deen Celebrates!), who specializes in the kind of butter-and cheese-laden fare that epitomizes family-style comfort food.
Sweets and snacks account for most of the recipes, since Deen happily admits to never varying from her Christmas dinner menu, which centers on a Standing Rib Roast and features a trio of potato dishes, including some unbelievably decadent Crème Fraîche Mashed Potatoes.
Cooks will find the cookies and desserts familiar but richer, like eyebrow-raising but delicious Chocolate Cheese Fudge and creamy Chocolate Sandwich Cookies.
Snacks and breakfast dishes are crowd pleasers, like gooey Praline French Toast Casserole and Cheese-coated Bacon Wraps.
Devoted viewers of Deen's show may miss the sound of her warm drawl narrating the process, but the smattering of glowing family photos and anecdotes about her grown kids and recent marriage, though she's told them before, are decent stand-ins.
Several pages of baking hints are included, but most of the recipes are simple and straightforward enough, with readily available ingredients, that even novices should be able to put together a generous Christmas spread. (Nov.)

Retro Christmas Recipes Revival
Do you remember the Christmas holiday food you had when you were a child?
What did your grandparents make that you absolutely adored?
What family food traditions have you missed as an adult? Well it’s time to have a retro Christmas recipe revival.
Bring back those old favorites this year and relive the Christmas of your youth. Here are three ideas for some old holiday favorites.
#1 Egg Nog
Did you know that egg nog may have originated in the middle ages? It’s been a holiday food tradition for quite some time.
And while the convenience of buying it in a carton is nice, there’s nothing quite like homemade egg nog. It’s actually quite easy to make.
You’ll need:
* 4 egg yolks
* 1/3 cup sugar, plus 1 tablespoon
* 1 pint whole milk
* 1 cup heavy cream
* 3 ounces bourbon
* 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
* 4 egg whites
Beat the egg yolks until they lighten in color. Gradually add 1/3 cup sugar and continue to beat until it is completely dissolved. Add the milk, cream, bourbon and nutmeg and stir to combine.
Place the egg whites in a separate bowl and beat to soft peaks. With the mixer still running, gradually add the 1 tablespoon of sugar and beat until stiff peaks form like a meringue.
Whisk the egg whites into the mixture. Chill and serve.
#2 Gingerbread
Gingerbread is another old-fashioned holiday favorite. Depending on your preferences you can make gingerbread cookies, snaps, gingerbread bread or even a gingerbread house. There are a number of recipes available.
They range from quite basic to a quite elaborate. Find one that matches your taste and childhood memories.
Did it have cream cheese? Bananas? Was your gingerbread dipped in chocolate? Experiment and enjoy gingerbread this holiday season.
#3 Fruit cake
Yes, that lovely cake that gets such a bad rap can actually be quite good. This is especially true when you make it from scratch. Fruitcake is a mixture of fruits and nuts.
There’s usually only a small amount of batter, just enough to hold it all together.
However, traditional fruit cake isn’t for children. It’s usually soaked with alcoholic liquors, then stored in a tightly closed tin.
If that sounds like a bit of old-fashioned fun, ask your grandmother for a recipe or take a look online.
Like gingerbread there are hundreds of recipes available.
Other old-fashioned Christmas recipes might include:
* Hot cross buns
* Christmas pudding
* Mince pie
And of course ham, turkey, stuffing and the traditional holiday menu. Have fun this holiday and bring back some of the retro recipes you loved as a child.
Who knows - you might just bring back an old family tradition.
Homemade Edible Gifts from the Heart
Are you looking for a new way to show your appreciation and gratitude this holiday season? Are you looking to give gifts this year that are special and focus on giving rather than materialism?
Consider making your own homemade edible gifts this year.
When you spend your valuable time creating something from your heart, your friends and family know you love and appreciate them. It takes a bit of extra time, energy and attention to make something from scratch.
However, in the long run it’s also easier than hitting the shopping malls and battling the crowd in search of that perfect gift. You can make one instead.
How to Create Homemade Edible Treats
The first step to creating homemade treats is actually two steps. You want to consider what you can make, where you’re skilled. You also want to take your recipient in mind.
What do they like to eat? What foods are their favorites or what would they enjoy most?
For example, if you’re making a treat for your young nieces and nephews, then perhaps they’d most appreciate candy. If you’re making a treat for your single brother, then perhaps he’d appreciate a ready to go soup and biscuits, with just "add water" instructions attached.
Your second step will be to prepare a plan. What are you going to make and who are you going to make it for?
You’ll want to make a detailed plan that also includes when you’re going to make your gifts. Take care to keep your gifts in mind.
For example, if you’re baking bread for family and friends, you’ll want to make it close to the day you’re actually giving it to them. Hold onto it too long and you’ll be giving them stale bread.
Next you’ll create your shopping list. In addition to writing down all the ingredients for your recipes, you’ll also want to shop for the packaging.
How are you going to package and wrap your treats? Will the packaging be part of the gift?
For example, if you’re baking homemade bread will you also give your recipient a bread pan or will you deliver it on a disposable plate?
If you’re making edible treats that your recipient can assemble themselves, you might want to purchase nice jars or containers for the ingredients.
For example, if you’re giving someone oatmeal cookies, you might layer all the ingredients in a large mason jar.
Tie a ribbon around the outside and then attach the mixing directions to the ribbon. They may have to add an egg and water but the rest is done for them.
Packaging can play an important role in your homemade gifts.
Have fun making your homemade edible treats. Set aside a day or a weekend from the process and really enjoy yourself.
Your passion, joy and enthusiasm will show in your results.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Fruitcake Lovers' Dream"
By Lou. S
This review is from: Walkers Shortbread, Strathspey Rich Fruit Cake, 17.6-Ounce Box (Grocery)
I have ordered this cake three times in the past 15 months. We love marzipan and this cake epitomizes great preparation, presentation and proportion of marzipan.
We do not care for traditional fruitcake, but this cake is very different.
It's abundance of delicious high-end fruits and moist cake make it taste out-of-the-ordinary.
Try it, you will not be disappointed.
Amazon offers the most competitive pricing, when you order it directly from them, not a MarketPlace vendor.
We found out that we have to watch our carbs (sugar, etc.) intake. so we don't order it as often as we would like.

I have purchased a number of different food gift baskets over the years online, and its always a little difficult to determine which one to get. You have to carefully read the content descriptions, as some baskets have a lot of "filler" items.
This makes it appear that you are getting a lot of food, but its crackers and condiments. My father liked this basket, he said the salami and other things were of good quality, so I would recommend it to others.
I would really like to see more food gift baskets that were filled with more "hard" food items like meat & cheese and less "fluff"
